Tempo or Beats Per Minute (BPM)

In musical terminologytempo ("time" in Italian) is the speed or pace of a given piece. In classical music, tempo is typically indicated with an instruction at the start of a piece (often using conventional Italian terms) and is usually measured in beats per minute (or bpm). In modern classical compositions, a "metronome mark" in beats per minute may supplement or replace the normal tempo marking, while in modern genres like electronic dance music, tempo will typically simply be stated in bpm.

If you are having trouble finding the number of beats per minute for any given piece of music you upload to Rhythmic Rebellion, try playing around with a metronome to figure out how many beats per minute it is. There is even a feature on some metronome apps you can download where the app will listen to the music playing and tell you what the number of beats per minute is after listening and analyzing the piece of music.
